THE DUNGEON.

A WORK OF LOVE
One pair of hands.
One hat at a time.
“Welcome to my dungeon. My name is Jorge La Sombra.”
It starts with a feeling. La Sombra describes it as “an energy I feel. A pull towards a feeling.” Here, at the bench, he gives it a form.
Each hat is made from scratch. Blocking, cutting, pouncing, banding, shaping, dressing, branding: patient work, carried through by hand. The photographs bring you close enough to see the stitches and the tools. The films let you stay for the making.
For La Sombra, the hours behind a finished hat are a work of love. The joy is in watching it become itself.

The piece is turned, held and worked on at the bench. Every finish takes attention.

A wooden tool, felt and a steady hand. Small adjustments shape the line.

The work continues beneath the brim. The sweatband is fitted and held in place.

Guided by hand, stitch by stitch.
